THE CROWSROADS

THE CROWSROADS are an Italian folk-rock duo made up of two brothers, Matteo Corvaglia (guitar, vocals) and Andrea Corvaglia (harmonica, vocals).

The repertoire of their concerts consists of self-written songs and covers of American and English singer-songwriters and bands.On the 22nd of September 2016 they won the first prize and the special “MuoviLaMusica” prize at the Italian national music contest “L’Artista che non c’era” (13th edition), organized yearly by the music magazine “L’Isola che non c’era”, at the CPM Music Institute in Milan, in front of a jury made up of important insiders of the Italian music community, such as Franco Mussida (guitarist for PFM), Alberto Salerno (songwriter), Giorgio Cordini (guitarist for Fabrizio De André), Marco Ferradini (singer-songwriter).

Their musical career started in 2009, when they took up their respective instruments as autodidacts. In 2012 they released an EP consisting of four self-written songs, “Some sky inside my pocket”, produced by musician Antonio Giovanni Lancini. On the 14th of April 2013 at Palabanco in Brescia they were awarded the first prize from both the jury and the audience at “Deskomusic”, a contest for local high-school bands.

In April 2015 a single, “Athens”, was released digitally and later included in “EATALY live project”, a compilation distributed by Sony music. In the same year “Pirate Flag”, another original song, appeared in the soundtrack of the movie “Rosso Mille Miglia”, and a cover of “Sentimento” (the song with which the Italian band Avion Travel won Sanremo Festival in 2000) was included in the compilation “65 Sanremo”, produced and distributed by the label Azzurra Music. In May 2016 their new album “Reels”, containing 11 covers and 3 originals (one of which boasts the participation of the internationally known vocal performer Boris Savoldelli), produced by Antonio Giovanni Lancini and Paolo Salvarani, was released. In 2016 they took part in Buscadero Day (a festival organized yearly by Buscadero, one of the most important music magazines in Italy), and they were later back at the festival both in 2017, 2018 and 2019.

In late June 2017 a new original song, “Golden City” was included in the third volume of the Pistoia Blues Festival compilation, and they took part in the events of the festival itself. In 2018, another original song, “Busking Out On A Monday”, was included in the fourth volume of the same compilation.

In February 2019 they were invited to perform at “Sa(n)remo senza confini”, a series of concerts organized by the magazine “L’Isola che non c’era” at Club Tenco (where every year the most eminent prize for Italian singer-songwriters is assigned), concomitantly with the Sanremo Festival.They have opened concerts for Larry Campbell e Teresa Williams, John Popper e Jono Manson, Steve forbert, Robben Ford, Treves Blues band, Frankie Chavez, Stef Burns, Judith Owen.

In 2019 they will release their new album “On the ropes”(the first consisting of only original songs), produced by Antonio Lancini e Paolo Salvarani, recorded with the participation of internationally known session musicians and with guest Sarah Jane Morris, Jono Manson , Frankie Chavez.
